Yorkshire Farmhouse Garden

Clients were looking to create a sense of unity in this large country garden. With two teenage daughters, the space needed to be designed for groups of friends as well as family gatherings. Key was to create a scheme that referenced the farming history of the house as well as the wider Yorkshire landscapes.

The design features a large courtyard in front of the barn developed to house a film and games room. A Mediterranean garden surrounds the courtyard with fragrant shrubs and grasses chosen to tolerate harsh Yorkshire winters and occasional drought. Pear trees are planted in meadows bordered by low hedges creating views across the garden. Paths meander through the hazel woodland, past the firepit to seats in the shady fern corner.
